Love this car seat!
My husband and I researched car seats for days before purchasing this one. Our daughter was too heavy for her infant car seat but yet still too young to be in a front facing one. It was very easy to install in my 2009 Honda Pilot and there is plenty of room for the driver seat to move back. We really like how everything on this seat can be done with one hand. The straps move up and down with the head rest so there is no need to uninstall the carseat to adjust the straps every time or daughter has a growth spurt. The latch system is very simple and there is no digging around in the seat to connect the latch, it is just the push of a button. There is also a separate latch strap for rear and front facing positions which is nice. There is a level on the side of the car seat instead of just sticker arrows, that help to ensure the seat is installed correctly. The only thing I would change is that it would be on the same side as the adjustment strap for the latch system so you can see it while you are tightening the straps. I like that the cup holder is built into the carseat and is fully enclosed allowing for use as a snack holder as well. I also like the extra padding that is in the head rest, it is even more supportive than her infant car seat. We went with the green color because it would ship faster than the purple but it is very pretty and feminine at the same time. The price was in our budget but still gave us all the features we were looking for without skimping on padding or using cheap fabric. We are really happy with this purchase.
Very impressed by this seat!
I was a car seat tech for many years and always love getting to review new car seats. Some of my reviews have not been real popular because I didn't rant and rave about how wonderful the seat was! I'm happy to say, I was very pleased with this seat. It is very user friendly and installs well.
- No need to re-thread the harness when adjusting the height. Over the years, I saw a lot of mis-threading mistakes made by parents, so this is a very nice feature.
- Separate LATCH attachments for rear and forward facing. Again, a common mistake is using the rear facing belt bath for forward facing installs. Having separate LATCH connectors should reduce this. I hope.
- Easy install forward and rear facing. Obviously, I can't try the seat in every vehicle, but in the two I did try, the seat installed tight with very little effort. The rear facing recline was perfect without any rolled towels or pool noodles as well.
- The adjuster pulled very smooth and I didn't have any issues with the harness wanting to fold over in the buckle.
- The instructions were very clear.
- Nice, deep sides and good side impact protection. Yes, I realize we don't test for this in the US, but deep side wings are always a pro.
- The infant insert is nice. Unfortunately, my baby is 6 months old so I really can't test out how well the seat fits a small newborn.
- High rear facing weight limit is great, but not real unique in this day and age.
The only real con I saw was that the fabric was kind of slick and itchy. It's also booooring, but these things are not big cons at all. They are more like personal likes/dislikes and don't impact the safety of the seat at all.
A winner for a wide number of reasons, with safety foremost
This is the 3rd car seat I've used in the last 5 years. Nothing wrong with the other two but this one has some special features which set it apart.
First and foremost, of course, is safety. I'm a huge fan of the LATCH system (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) which helps ensure that car seats are installed safely. Most cars since 2002 work with the LATCH system. So it isn't anything new.
However, the Graco has a LATCH system which sets it apart from many other car seats, at least when it comes to ease of use: it is the InRight™ system for one-second LATCH attachment. It definitely reduces time taking the car seat in and out of our auto as well as making sure the seat is safely in place.
So that is one huge plus...and it is indeed a special feature for us.
Another factor that we consider pretty special: this car seat not only works well with newborns (who weigh at least 7 pounds) but also accommodates toddlers who tend to be on the tall side and the 3 recline positions are very simple to adjust.
The height factor matters to us because we had one car seat which could have been used longer - if only our grandchild hadn't been so tall. He was still within acceptable weight restrictions but the seat was no longer comfortable because of his height and the lack of support for his head and neck.
That isn't the case with the Graco. It will fit the taller toddler. Even an extra tall toddler. At least, based on our experience. And at each stage there is plenty of padding to add extra comfort and security around the head, neck, and body. It is a very comfortable seat.
We also like these features and benefits:
The seat is easy to clean. Easy to wipe down. No fuss maintenance.
The built-in drink holder is extremely convenient, one of those little touches which makes everyone happier. I'm surprised how many car seats still don't have these.
Very happy for extended rearfacing
This seat is highly recommended for taller kids by Car Seats for the Littles, and since my youngest is above the 90th percentile for height and weight, this seemed to be the best option to keep him rearfacing longer without shelling out for a Radian or Foonf. I found it very easy to install in the second row of our '06 Odyssey, though I did need to use a pool noodle to get it at just the right angle. No trouble getting the harness height adjusted, and the straps tighten fine. The chest clip is different than what I'm used to on other seats, and a little bit more difficult to unfasten as a result, but I imagine that also helps keep kids from being able to release it themselves, so not a bad thing. We've only had it for a week but so far I'm very pleased with it.
Easy installation, baby enjoys riding in this car seat...
Love! First off, I spent hours upon hours trying to decide what convertible car seat to buy for my 8 month old daughter. She had started to outgrown her car seat carrier (she is now 23# and 29inches at 9 months old). So finding a bigger car seat was very important. The ease of installing this car seat is great! I love the new LATCH clips. They make it also easier to get the seat snapped in correctly. The car seat lays back far enough (but yet safe enough) so when she falls asleep her head is not flopped forward (ouch!). There are two soft "pillow" like pads on the headrest. I love these also, b/c it prevents her head from wobbling from side to side and keeps her body in a comfortable and safe position while traveling. The cup holder has come in handy already! Great addition. I like how it is built in to the seat itself, instead of an attachment. We use wide bottles/sippy cups and they fit in the holder with plenty of room. I was weary with all the recalls that Graco had recently, but figured since their name has been at the top of list for awhile, that their products are safe. Praying they don't recall our seat for anything in the future. I also received a $25 rebate for purchasing this seat. Which made it more affordable for us. It took me two tries (and 3 broken finger nails) to figure out how to unlatch the top buckle. But glad that I figured it out. This seat should last us forever. The headrest adjusts with the age/weight/height of the child as they grow. Lastly, I love the color of the seat! :)
Liked the first enough that we bought another.
I shopped for what seemed like forever for a convertible car seat. My daughter was extremely tall when she was born and outgrew her infant seat by the time she was 6 months old (at 30 inches tall and in the 99% for height consistently). I finally settled on this seat and have been very happy with it!
- Love the latch system.
- Fits nicely in my old 2010 Dodge Avenger, and now 2014 Honda CRV. We actually liked it enough we purchased a second to put in my husbands 2013 Dodge Charger. Though a tighter fit, it doesn’t quite touch the back of the front seats, though its awfully close.
- No extra supports needed, it has a built in level that showed us it was installed correctly.
- Adjusting the height of the straps adjusting automatically is wonderful.
- Even without the extra head support, you can keep the insert in the bottom a lot longer. We are still using it for my 10 month old who weighs 21 lbs.
- It is a very tall seat that seems like it will grow well with my big girl.
- Price was pretty darn good too at around $160.
- As I have little experience with other car seats, I don’t know if this is a problem for most. But getting her into the seat, up over the sides can be a bit tricky. If we aren’t careful, we can bonk her head off the low roof of my husband’s car. Same thing with removing her. Especially if she’s napping, very difficult not to wake her while lifting her up and out.
This car seat is fantastic!
This car seat is amazing. My husband and I spent a week reviewing our options-- we looked at Consumer Reports ratings, OnlineShopDealer reviews, and asked advice from lots of friends. In the end we picked this one, and couldn't be happier!
We didn't want a super pricy seat, and this one seemed reasonably priced for what you got. It seems excellent quality, and also has a very sleek aesthetic (which, I'm not going to lie, I like a lot).
As far as functionality is concerned, it is far and away the most impressive car seat I have ever used. As other reviewers mentioned, there is no need to re-thread the shoulder straps to adjust them-- you just use the red handle on the top of the seat to adjust the height of the headrest, which automatically adjusts the shoulder strap height as well. It's amazingly simple, and SO easy! Only takes a couple seconds, and can be done with the kid in the seat, so no need to move them in and out of the seat (or move the seat in and out of the car!). Priceless.
Installation was also a snap. It took a little squinting to understand the diagrams in the book, but once I realized that all I had to do was hook in the latch belts and pull to tighten, it was a piece of cake. It does require some exertion (and you are supposed to kneel on the seat to ensure a snug fit), but it's solid as anything. As an added bonus, no towels or padding were required to make the seat level.
As far as tightening/loosening the harness (when buckling a child in), I think this is pretty great. It's really easy to loosen the harness (and you get LOTS of slack, especially on the shorter settings), but tightening it is slightly harder (though not ridiculously so). The buttons/buckles are also much easier to use than my graco infant seat-- it requires enough pressure to "eject" the buckle that I'm not worried my toddler can do it, but not so much that I'm afraid I'll fracture my thumb. Similarly, buckling the crotch strap is easy-- all that's required is a little pressure before you hear an audible "click" (unlike our graco infant seat, which was a pain to fasten).
Finally, this seat fits comfortably in the back of our 2004 Prius. We were concerned about fit, since many convertible seats can be very tall and bulky, but this fits easily in the back middle seat with a little room to grow (on the rear-facing setting). ( Incidentally, one of the reasons we purchased this is that Consumer Reports gave it a good rating for fitting in compact cars while rear-facing.) I don't know how well it would fit on either side seat in rear-facing mode (and we haven't yet switched to front-facing), but for us it works perfectly.
Overall, I cannot say enough good things about this seat. It's really easy to install, amazingly simple to adjust, and getting our toddler in and out is a piece of cake. Would definitely purchase this one again!
Probably the best car seat I could have bought for my daughter.
What satisifes me most is the comfort level that this seat offers, where my daughter oozes off to sleep once I go in for a long drive.
PERFECT CAR SEAT FOR SMALL VEHICLES!
Great car seat! Super easy install using latch method. And very compact...fits great in the backseat of my small double cab truck!
Super easy to use
After having the experience with several brands and several styles of baby car seats, I have to say this is my favorite. This car seat is so easy to use. I was able to install it by myself without extra towels or any frustration. It had two latch systems, one for rear facing and one for forward facing. You just have to put it in the car, adjust the recline (with one hand!), and attach with the latch.
To adjust the headrest as the child grows, you use one handle at the top of the seat and pull. It is almost too simple! The cup holder is attached, which I did not realize was important until my daughter was able to remove the detachable kind from her old car seat and throw it! There are several cushions for extra comfort and protection. And these cushions do not need to removed as the child grows (unless they prefer it).
The buckle is easy to use, but secure. It is the standard five point harness. I will say you need a little extra force to unclip the chest buckle, but I can do it every time without any hassle. And the harness adjust easily as well.
The fabric breathes well in the heat and can wipe clean easily. The cup holder is a sturdy plastic that also wipes well. But it only takes standard size cups; chunky bottles will not fit.
Overall, I think this is the best car seat and highly recommend it. I did not know the best until the Graco Size4Me convertible car seat!
