Loud but works great!
I am giving this product 5 stars because it works excellent for the price. But I do need to wear ear plugs if I am going to use it for more than a couple of seconds. If you are looking for something more quiet, this is not for you. However, if you are looking to save money and do a great job and can deal with the noise, then this is for you. The large 8 cup workbowl is perfect for chopping things in together.
One other thing I have to say is the slicer slices pretty thin - thinner than it looks in the picture. I sliced carrots and they were about 1/8 inch in thickness.
I really like my new food processor. THe last one I had was over 10 years old and it just died. Never thought I'd get another one that I liked as much but I was wrong. This is excellent.
I use it to make dough, grind my own chicken, chop onions, make cookie dough, etc. It is powerful AND looks good. And for the price, you can't go wrong!
Hopefully, it will last as long as my old Sanyo processor did!
This was to replace a smaller food processor that broke. It's easy to use and assemble. The suction cups on the bottom can be a little annoying when it comes to moving it around, but it makes up for that in sheer power! It speeds through anything I have fed it so far. I mostly shred veggies and such. It takes care of them in no time making my previous food processor look pathetic. Annihilation! That was what popped into my head the first time I used it. It was actually fun! Love it!
One tough little gadget!
After having this food processor in my wish list for months, I saw it at Wal-Mart and bought it on an impulse. I'd never owned a processor before this one so I can't compare it to another, but as a first timer I love it! It does slice thinner than the image shows, but it's such a help in cooking for my family. I use it every chance I get. It is louder than I'd like, but for the price and quality that's something you can deal with.
I wanted to write a review to share a story of how sturdy this little thing actually is because I was very impressed. One of my family members was doing a thorough cleaning of the kitchen and set this machine outside in an open box to get it out of the way. This was almost two months ago. After looking all over and finally giving up, I just happened to find it outside today. It was covered in mud, the bowl was filled with water. The weather over the last two months had ranged from freezing nights to 90-some-degree temperatures, and this guy had been out there, un-sheltered, through it all. Of course, I had to at least try to see if it worked still. I cleaned it up, plugged it in, and it turned on sounding just as good (and loud) as it had on the day I'd bought it. If that doesn't say something for the durability of this product, I don't know what does!
Nice price, nice processor
I was willing to go out and spend some bucks on a top of the line food processor, but while I was out shopping they had this little B&D on sale for 29.00, so I thought what the heck?? Glad I did, I have had a few small appliances by B&D before and have been more than happy with the quality. I see a few reviews that state "to noisey" but let's face it people when we are in the kitchen chopping onions and tomatoes etc with 450 watts of blades how long do you really have the thing on for?? a couple of seconds or 15 minutes... come on let's be fair!! for the price it's great, and for that matter you can buy a pair of awesome earplugs, or a new IPod!!
After reading the reviews, I was a little apprehensive about the noise level of this processor, but to be honest, it really isn't any noisier than my Cuisinart was. I'm very happy with this processor, and the price is perfect! I just couldn't justify $150 plus for something that I use sparingly, this black & Decker FP1600B 8-Cup Food Processor, is perfect for my needs.
I like it
I love the size of this processor. I've had one that was so big and bulky it was a pain to drag out and a pain to store and I have one of the little mini choppers that's not quite big enough. I've used this processor for chopping, slicing and grating and so far it works great and does just what I want.
A mid-sized processor and a winner in my kitchen!
Just received my order (on time and packaged so well-all parts accounted for and in perfect condition), washed it, studied the manual, and shredded some cabbage, chopped up some vegetables and fruit. I have a refurbished mini-processor so the instructions and process was familiar to me. I like this processor and for the price, I think it is a real bargain that is worth 5 stars and recommending. IMO, it doesn't make any more noise than my blender and is not an issue for me. It is a mid-sized processor that has extremely sharp shredding, slicing, and chopping blades (careful in storing the extra blade); the rubber feet keep the processor from sliding during operation; it is super easy to assemble and clean-up. I used the pulse button to regulate the processing, prepared the vegetables and fruit in uniform pieces, and I have no complaints. It will hold up to 3 cups of cold or hot (but not boiling) liquids and up to 2 cups of cubed meat. The manual is IMO very explicit in assembling, preparing foods, processing methods, and cleaning. I made room for it on my counter as from experience I have learned that appliances that I have to get out of a cupboard every time I want to use them, don't get used as often as they should.
BOUGHT THIS AT WALMART, THEY HAVE AN EVERYDAY PRICE OF 29.98. I USE IT A MINIMUM OF 5 TIMES A DAY SINCE I MAKE OUR DINNER, AND BABY FOOD IN IT EVERY SINGLE DAY. THIS IS ALOT QUIETER THEN MY LITTLE 1.5CUP COPPER AND WORKS SO GOOD!! IT IS VERY EASY TO CLEAN, TRUST ME I HAND WASH IT 5 TIMES A DAY AND WORKS GREAT. PEOPLE WHO BUY A 100DOLLAR PLUS ONE ARE WASTING THERE MONEY! UNLESS YOU PLAN TO MAKE DOUGH THIS MACHINE WILL NEVER DISAPPOINT YOU!
I'm a college student and I didn't want to drop $100 (or more) on a fancy food processor. I bought this on a whim when I wanted to make hummus, and it has more than exceeded my expectations. I use it for EVERYTHING now - I seriously think I used it 3 times today. It's a little noisy, but I just hold my ears - haha I'm a wimp - and there's no problem. The suction cup feet don't bother me at all, and I like the safety features (won't turn on until lid is locked) that prevent anyone from accidentally slicing their fingers off.
In case you want an idea of how versatile this "simple" machine is, I've used it to slice vegetables, make smoothies, make breadcrumbs, puree soup, and mash chickpeas....and that's just off the top of my head.
All in all, this is a great food processor that's made even better by the price. I would highly, highly recommend it to anyone.
EDIT 9/22/12: Still love this food processor! It's never failed me, and it's still going strong after a year. My grandma just bought a really nice (much more expensive) processor for me for my birthday, and there's not a big difference between the two products. If anything, I feel like this Black & Decker is a little more user friendly (easier to clean).
